Parenting does not come with a manual, and every child is different. Parenting education at The Supportive E.A.R. Counseling focuses on helping caregivers build stronger relationships with their children while developing practical skills to address everyday challenges.
Rather than focusing solely on discipline, parenting education emphasizes emotional connection, communication, understanding behavior, and building healther family relationships.
Understanding Parenting Styles
Every parent develops their parenting style through a combination of personal experiences, family influences, culture, values, beliefs, and life circumstances. Parenting styles do not develop in a vacuum. This section explores how parenting approaches are shaped, how they influence children and family dynamics, and how parents can intentionally develop a style that aligns with their goals and values.
Building Stronger Family Connections
Strong family relationships are built through consistent interactions, trust, emotional safety, and shared experiences. Parenting education explores practical ways to strengthen existing relationships, increase meaningful engagement, and foster a greater sense of connection within the family.
Understanding Behavior
Behavior often communicates a need, emotion, developmental challenge, or skill deficit. Parents learn strategies for understanding what may be contributing to behaviors and how to respond in ways that promote growth, learning, and positive change.
Emotional Regulation
Parents and children both experience strong emotions. This section focuses on increasing emotional awareness, understanding emotional reactions, and developing skills to respond effectively during stressful or emotionally charged situations.
Healthy Boundaries
Clear expectations and appropriate boundaries help create structure and predictability within the family. Parents learn strategies for establishing and maintaining boundaries while supporting healthy relationships and mutual respect.
Communication Skills
Effective communication can strengthen relationships and reduce unnecessary conflict. Parents learn skills related to active listening, clear expectations, problem-solving, emotional expression, and productive family conversations.
Managing Conflict
Conflict is a normal part of family life. Parents learn practical approaches for navigating disagreements, reducing escalation, addressing power struggles, and responding effectively during difficult interactions.
Strengthening Family Relationships
Parenting education focuses on helping families develop healthier patterns of interaction, improve trust, increase mutual understanding, and create a stronger foundation for long-term family relationships.
Parenting Education is designed to be interactive, practical, and conducted within a supportive, non-judgmental environment. Parenting can be challenging, and participants are encouraged to discuss successes, struggles, questions, and concerns without fear of criticism or blame.
While educational concepts and strategies will be discussed, meaningful change often comes from applying those ideas to real-life situations. Participants are encouraged to actively engage in discussions, ask questions, share experiences, and explore challenges they are currently facing.
Sessions often include opportunities to examine real-world parenting situations, discuss different approaches, and learn from the experiences of others. When appropriate and if participants are comfortable, role-playing exercises may be used to practice communication skills, boundary setting, conflict resolution, and other parenting strategies.
The goal is not simply to learn information, but to develop practical skills that can be applied within everyday family life.
Parenting Education and Anger Management Education are currently offered through telehealth. Participants will receive a secure meeting link by email, text message, or both, depending on their communication preferences.
Additional program information, schedules, and availability will be provided during registration.
This program is provided as an educational service rather than mental health counseling. Because these services are educational in nature, they are not typically covered by health insurance and are offered on a self-pay basis.
The initial six-session program fee is $240 and is due prior to the start of services. This initial commitment allows participants sufficient time to learn concepts, practice new skills, and begin applying those skills in everyday situations.
Participants who wish to continue beyond the initial six-session program may do so at a rate of $40 per additional session.
Please note that participation in educational services does not establish a counseling relationship and should not be considered a substitute for mental health treatment when treatment is clinically indicated.
